Corofin 3-12   Clooney-Quin 1-2

COROFIN defeated Clooney Quin in their Division 2B U-16 final at Ennistymon on Sunday evening.

Pitch conditions were good but a strong wind made it very difficult for the players. Corofin opened the scoring when Dean Ruane converted a free, followed quickly by a point in the third minute from Conor O’Loughlin.

Ruane, Ian Reidy and Shay Malone got a point each from play and Ruane put over two more from frees before striking a goal in the 24th minute from play, followed quickly by a goal from a free.

Clooney/Quin responded with a goal from Michael Corry before the half-time whistle, to leave the score at the halfway stage at 2-9 to 1-0.

Clooney-Quin were in determined mood when the second half started but it was not their day. Corofin held the upperhand, scoring 1-3 in total. Ruane got two points from frees and one from play, while Conor O’Loughlin got a goal eight minutes into the second half.

Clooney Quin fought back with points from Michael Corry and Clark O’Broin but, at full-time, Corofin were comfortably ahead.

Shay Malone received the shield on behalf of the Corofin team from PRO of Bórd na nÓg Peil, Jane Larkin.
Good performances were given by Clooney Quin’s Luke McCarthy, Fergal Coughlan and David Sheehy, while Corofin’s Conor O’Loughlin, Stephen Burke and Dean Ruane impressed.
