Coole 10km road run/walk taking place

The Coole 10km road run/walk will take place in Coole Park, Gort on Sunday, April 17 at 11am. The event is been organised by Ardrahan Defibrillator Committee and all proceeds will go towards the cost of training 30 local people in the locality.

The committee was set up in 2008 after the death of a local boy Kyle McCrann from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome. The committee is trying to raise awareness of the importance of having trained defibrillator operators in every community.
“Cardio Vascular Disease is Ireland’s biggest killer, with in the region of 10,000 deaths each year. Six thousand are from sudden cardiac arrest and 70% of these occur outside of hospital.
“It is imperative that sports clubs and organisations are equipped and prepared to respond in the context of these statistics. The current survival rate of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Ireland is 1%.
“There is significant evidence to suggest that early intervention can have a major impact on survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest,” said Ardian Sylver, one of the event organisers.
“So why not come along on April 17 to walk or jog or run in this Coole 10km event and enjoy the scenic views in Coole Park while participating in this fundraising event,” he suggested.
Entry to this event is online at www.runireland.com and you can also contact the race director Gabriel Gardiner at 086 8389626 for further details.
