ONE of the most badly affected areas of Ennis during serious flooding last November is to benefit from flood relief works.
On Wednesday, Ennis Town Council signed a contract with BAM Civil Ltd, Galway, to construct the Aughanteeroe Flood Alleviation Scheme.
The need for flood alleviation works at Aughanteeroe, Gort Road, Ennis was identified in the Ennis Main Drainage and Flood Study Preliminary Report.
The section was originally included in the River Fergus Lower,(Ennis) Drainage Scheme, Bank Place bridge to Doora bridge. It was subsequently separated out to advance the works.
The works are due to commence next Monday and are due to be completed within four months at a cost of €250,000.
The main lower scheme will commence on site before year end.
Mayor of Ennis, Tommy Brennan welcomed the works, saying that it is needed.
“These areas of Ennis were badly hit during the flooding last winter and I hope that these works will prevent a repeat situation in the future,” he commented.
