Conroy Perpetual Shield for O’Connor

The ninth annual Matt O’Connor Memorial Open Sports were held at Lees Road, where Jessica O’Connor from the host club won the confined girls’ U-16 title and the Ciara Conroy Memorial 100m title from Anna Courtney, with Emily Barry in third spot.
There were great races in each age group and a fine turnout of athletes, with the first double going to Ailbhie Landy (Ennis Track) in the girls’ U-7, who won the 60m and 80m, while in the boys’ U-7, Darragh Culligan (Fergus AC) also recorded a double victory.
Allanah Attewell (St Mary’s) won gold in the U-8 60m and 100m, Sultan Akinwale (Ennis Track) claimed double gold in the U-10 100m and 300m and in the U-11 boys, Ferdia O’Lionain (Tulla) was very impressive in the 100m and 400m.
Rachel Hosey (Limerick AC) claimed a double in the girls’ U-12 100m and 600m while in the boys’ U-14 Tony Odubuto (Ennis Track) took first place in the 100m and 800m.
In the junior girls’ 1,500m Laura Power (Ennis Track) led from start to finish to claim victory in 5.22 ahead of Áine Rouine (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) and Claudia Loughnane (Marian).
The junior men’s 1,500m was won by Kevin Mulcaire (Ennis Track) in 4.32 from Cian O’Brien (Marian) and Fergal Conlon (Tulla).
Kevin Chesser (Ennis Track) led from start to finish in the senior men’s 1,500m in 4.18 with Willie Devitt (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) second.
The high jump title went Rachel Clancy (St John’s) with a leap of 1. 55m with the senior men’s high jump going to Ronan Barry (Marian) 1.58m.

Clare titles for Shannon and Rynne in 10k championships

The Clare athletics Association 10 Mile Road Championships were held in conjunction with the Michael Sonny Murphy Memorial in Kilnaboy, with Michael Shannon (Kilnaboy) and Sharon Rynne (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) taking the honours.
Shannon and Julio Cesear F Castro (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare) set the pace for the men’s race, with Shannon pulling away at the seven-mile mark to come home a very comfortable winner in 52.36 ahead of Julio Cesear F Castro and Willie Devitt (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare).
The men’s team title went to Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare on 20 points ahead of the host club Kilnaboy on 46 points and Ennis Track on 60 points.
In the ladies’ race, Sharon Rynne (Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare), who captured the Cratloe 10k road race on Saturday, once again produced another big race to claim her first 10-mile road championship title in 64.22. She won from last year’s title holder, Marie Carey (Ennis Track) (64.33) and Tracy Guilfoyle (Kilnaboy) in (65.07).
The team title went to Ennis Track on 17 points with Kilmurry Ibrickane-North Clare second on 27 points.
