A Leaving Certificate pupil at St Flannan’s College, 17-year-old Conor told The Clare Champion he has always had an interest in weightlifting.
“I started training with Tom Cusack in Sixmilebridge, who encouraged me to enter this competition. I have also received a lot of help and advice from Gerry O’Connell,” Conor said. Tom Cusack was crowned world champion last summer, while Gerry O’Connell is the holder of several Irish records.
Conor will continue to train over the coming months but he doesn’t have any plans to compete in competition.
“The focus is on the Leaving Certificate now and school must be the main focus. There will always be competitions and once the exams are over, I will look at getting back into competition,” Conor concluded.
