Comyn is new ladies’ football manager

Former Clare and Dublin player Noelle Comyn is the new Clare ladies’ senior football manager. A native of Tubber, Noelle was appointed at a special Clare County Board meeting held on Tuesday night.
As a player, Noelle won numerous titles in football and camogie at club and county level in her native Clare.
She has added to that collection since moving to Dublin in 2004, where she is still based.
Noelle’s football honours in Clare include nine senior championships with Fergus Rovers as well as Division 1, 2, and 3 National League medals, an All-Ireland junior title in 1991, two All-Ireland B championships and a Munster Senior Championship title in 2001. Noelle was also selected as an All-Star that year.
Since her move to the capital she has won four Dublin Senior Club Championships, three Leinster Senior Club titles and two All-Ireland Senior Club titles with Ballyboden St Enda’s.
At inter-county level, Noelle played in the All-Ireland finals of 2004 and 2009 in her customary full-back position with Dublin, losing to Galway and Cork.
She finally won an All-Ireland senior title with Dublin last year when they defeated Tyrone but a knee injury sustained against Clare in the All-Ireland quarter-final meant she could play no further part. Ironically, this was her last game in a Dublin jersey. She was also nominated for an All-Star in 2009.
It is the first time a former Clare player has been appointed as county senior manager. Noelle succeeds David O’Brien from Miltown, who stepped down a few weeks ago, having served for four years in management, the last two of which he was the manager. A number of people, including Dara Kelly, Kilkee, had been linked with the post in recent weeks.
Clare will begin their Division 2 National League campaign on February 5 at home to Waterford.
