THE community of Mountshannon is to present a one-hour long play based on the Three Kings’ search for the Holy Infant.
The production is based on a medieval text with its origins in Oberufer, an island in the Danube and is presented by people living locally.
Directed by Paul Brennan the production, which will be staged at Mountshannon Hall, recreates the kings’ search and how they evade the clutches of the tyrant Herod.
The play runs from January 6 to 7 with curtains up at 8pm but there will be further performances of the play in Camphill Community Jerpoint County Kilkenny on Friday, January 13 and at Camphill Community Mournegrange, County Down on Friday, January 27.
The cast include people working in Camphill Community, Mountshannon, as well as members of the Christian community based in Tuamgraney and parents at the Steiner National School, while the local Sliabh Aughty Drama Group are providing technical support.
While the story is known to most, the play will be staged in an inventive way, using the body of the hall as performance space.
Peneleapaí Ní Tiung, who is among those participating, said, “It is a subject matter with so many elements in it, as relevant today in this world of far-away and closer-to-home injustice and seeming insanity in the hands of those too powerful to budge affecting all but most devastatingly, those most vulnerable and defenceless and innocent”.
Tickets is available on the door and at local outlets with family/group concessions and pre-bookings can be made by calling 086 3358579.
It is advised that the play is not suitable for younger children.
