Kildysart 1-11   Kilmurry-Ibrickane 0-4

Kildysart bounced back into contention for a place in the knock out stage of the intermediate football championship when they defeated Kilmurry-Ibrickane’s second string at Cooraclare on Sunday.

The winners led from start to finish and will go into their final group game in the knowledge that a win over Clarecastle will see them well in the hunt to progress.

Having won their opening game, Kilmurry had to make changes for last week’s match having lost Mark Killeen and John Sexton to their senior team on the previous day. They struggled with numbers and following an injury to full back Dermot O’Brien they did not have a replacement and played the final quarter a man short.

Kildysart got off to a dream start with Keith Murphy scoring what was to be the game’s only goal, in the first minute when he flicked a Brian O’Sullivan delivery to the Kilmurry net.

They went on to lead at the break on a score of 1-4 to 0-1. They had wind advantage in the second half and dominated the exchanges hitting seven points without reply on their way to a comfortable and merited win.

Corofin 2-11   Kilfenora 0-7

Corofin got their intermediate football championship campaign off to a winning start when they overcame Kilfenora at Miltown on Sunday.

A Damian Ryan penalty goal helped the winners to a half time lead of eight points, 1-8 to 0-3, and while Kilfenora tried hard to get back into contention after the break, Corofin sealed victory with a Gearóid Kelly goal.

Corofin hit the crossbar and the post four times in the first half and Kilfenora were fortunate not to have been further behind at half time.

Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, Naomh Eoin were slow to settle and found themselves two points behind in the early minutes. The West Clare side stepped up a gear and when the half time whistle sounded they were four clear, 0-6 to 0-2.

With the aid of the wind in the second half, it didn’t take the South East Clare club long to get back on terms and they went on to capture the spoils.
