In the only contest at last week’s annual general meeting of the Clare Junior Soccer league, chairman Donie Garrihy comfortably retained his position when he had a 37 to seven win over challenger Mickey Guilfoyle.
Addressing the large gathering following his re-election, the Burren United clubman said, “I am delighted to be returned as chairman. We have a brilliant executive.”
Guilfoyle congratulated Garrihy on his election and wished the league well.
Speaking this week, Mr Garrihy said, “The league is in the middle of a floodlighting project and I expect that work on the erection of the system will commence shortly.
“I would also hope that the league would draw up plans to have a stand erected at the county grounds. It is important to have such a facility at our headquarters.”
He also expressed satisfaction at the appointment of the Oscar Traynor management for a two-year term. “It’s the first time in many years that the league has the Oscar Traynor management in place before the end of the season for the following season. ”
The management comprises Liam Murphy (Newmarket Celtic), who is the manager, with Keith McInerney (Connolly Celtic) and Davy Ryan (Newmarket).
Last week’s meeting voted to increase the registration fee from €30 to €40. Last year, the meeting decided to reduce this fee by €10 but reversed that decision at last week’s meeting.
