Collopy appointed as director of UCH Limerick

A FORMER acting director of Glór in Ennis, David Collopy has been appointed as the new director of University Concert Hall in Limerick.
The appointment was made with immediate effect following the retirement of Michael Murphy this week.
Mr Collopy was appointed company general manager of University Concert Hall in November 2008, his previous position as acting director of Glór in Ennis.
Prior to that, he spent 21 years with Opera Ireland, holding the positions of general manager, executive director and chief executive, making him one of the most experienced opera producers in the country.
“I am delighted to be taking over at UCH at a very developmental time for the arts,” said Mr Collopy.
“There are many exciting projects in the pipeline both for the university and for the Mid-West region in which UCH will play a major role. Of course, there are challenges in these recessionary times, however, I have little doubt we are looking into a more stable economic environment which will see an even greater variety of first class performances in UCH,” he said.
University Concert Hall, welcomes an average of 80,000 patrons annually. In recent times, an exciting new vision for the future has been implemented resulting in increased arts activities.
The Association of Irish Choirs made UCH their permanent home in June 2009, the Irish Youth Choir look forward to a week-long residency at the venue in June of this year and the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble arrive on campus for a week this August.
