Club PROs urged to be more active

IN a joint report to Tuesday’s Clare Ladies’ Football County Board AGM, adult PRO Mary Keane and her underage counterpart, Alan Copley, suggested that club PROs must work harder.
“With the exception of a few clubs, many of the 22 club PROs were not active during the past year although this did improve late in the year when material was requested for the Clare GAA year book, after several requests in some cases,” their report read.
They encouraged clubs to insist that PROs change their attitudes in 2012.
“We encourage all clubs, when having their AGMs between now and February 1, to select a suitable candidate with an interest in the post,” they added.
The report paid tribute to Kilkee-based community radio station Radió Corca Baiscinn for broadcasting a full commentary on the ladies’ senior county final.
“For the first time, our senior county final was broadcast live from Doonbeg, while a special pre-championship programme was broadcast live from Kilmihil in June where all 10 participating clubs were invited to attend. A second preview programme was broadcast live from Kilkee on September 2 in the lead-up to the county senior final,” the report recalled.
The joint report supported the idea of establishing a ladies’ football public relations committee.
“We, as outgoing PROs, feel this is very important.  There are times when matches clash and apart from that, we can’t be everywhere. Apart from covering all the Clare inter-county matches, there were 38 finals in the county this past year and this does not include schools. The PRO committee would be able to come up with suggestions of more PR activities and would help to spread the work load and increase our publicity as a result. It is also important that matches start on time during the year. On a number of occasions throughout the year, matches were late starting. This caused problems in relation to radio coverage and photographers,” the report stated.
Currently the county board is dealing with E-Sports Manager in setting up a ladies’ football website, which should be in place for the start of the league campaign in February.
