Clooney-Quin back to winning ways

Clooney-Quin 0-17   Tulla 0-11
Following the disappointment of their first-round championship loss to Crusheen, Clooney-Quin returned to winning ways in Division 1 when they accounted for neighbours Tulla at Clooney on Friday evening.
Both sides were short some regulars for the league clash in which Brian Shally and Aidan Lynch exchanged points in the early minutes.
After the end of the first quarter, the sides were level at 0-4 each as Shally (2) and Martin Duggan added scores with Tulla responses from Darragh Corry, Cathal Dinan and 2007 championship-winning captain, Michael Murphy.
Clooney-Quin dominated the second quarter to lead 0-12 to 0-5 at the break, with scores coming from John Earls (3), Adrian Fleming (2), Mike Daffy and Martin Duggan.
The second half was lacklustre as Clooney-Quin were never really threatened.
Best for the winners were Shane McNamara, Enda Harrison, Cillian Duggan, John Earls, Brian Shally, Adrian Fleming and Mike McNamara. Tulla had good displays from Sean Torpey, Cathal Dinan, John Brennan, Ray Stewart, Mark Quinn and Eugene Cooney.

Sixmilebridge 0-14   Inagh-Kilnamona 1-7

Niall Gilligan scored six points as title holders Sixmilebridge kept up their strong challenge to retain the Clare Champion Cup when they accounted for Inagh-Kilnamona at Inagh on Monday.
The visitors led by a point at half-time when the score was 0-7 to 0-6 and a point still separated the sides inside the final quarter. However, a strong finish by the ’Bridge, which saw them score the last three points of the game, ensured a merited win for the visitors.

Newmarket 2-22   Whitegate 2-8

Newmarket maintained their strong challenge for league honours with a comprehensive win over Whitegate on Monday.
They led by seven points at half-time, when the score was 0-11 to 0-4, and continued to hold the upper hand after the break. They finished with 14 players after Martin Murphy was dismissed early in the final quarter.
Martin O’Hanlon and Anthony Kilmartin were the winners’ goalscorers, while Ian Fahy and Stephen Malone found the net for the East Clare outfit.
