Clondegad enjoy comfortable win

Clondegad cruised to a comfortable win over Kilmurry-Ibrickane their Garry Cup tie played at Ballynacally on Sunday.

They had points on the board from Paudge McMahon and Kenneth Kelly and a goal from McMahon after a good move before Kilmurry-Ibrickane opened their account with a point from David Callinan.

Further points from Eoin Griffin, Colm Quinlivan, McMahon and Shane Brennan left the score at 1-8 to 0-1 at the interval.

Kilmurry had the opening score of the second half through Seamus Lynch but the home side hit back with points from Griffin, Kieran Browne and Shane Brennan.

They continued to dominate to the finish and extended their lead further with a Shane Brennan goal shortly before the final whistle

Kildysart recorded their second win of the Garry Cup campaign when they proved too strong for St Breckan’s at Kildysart on Saturday evening. The winners were six points ahead at half time when the score was 0-8 to 0-2 and they went on to dominate the second half when Keith Murphy scored the game’s only goal.

Damian Murtagh and Gerry Kelly each kicked five points o n a day when they winners finished with 14 men after Damian Hill picked up a red card.

Kilrush made it two wins from two with a narrow victory last Saturday evening. Kilrush went into the game without the injured Cathal Lyons and the suspended John Hayes but welcomed back Chris Dixon for his first club game of the year.

O’Curry’s had the aid of a strong cross-field breeze in the opening half and were 0-6 to 0-4 to the good at half-time. Jim Young, Stephen Sweeney, Ruaidhri O’Connor and Calum Bond all scored for the Shams in that half. Ger Quinlan (0-3), Eoin Troy (0-2) and Jack Scanlan replied for the Westeners.

On the changeover, a couple of quick-fire Ruaidhri O’Connor points had Kilrush level. Padjoe McGrath, Darragh Bolton and Jim Young all kicked points in the second half.

A double save from Tony Burke with five minutes remaining, first from Eoin Troy’s shot and then from Jack Scanlan’s follow-up, was the turning point in securing a win for Kilrush.

Niall Gilbride, Cian Murray and Matthew Moloney excelled in defence while up front Darragh Bolton’s and Con O’Brien’s workrate was commendable. Inside, Jim Young and Ruaidhri O’Connor’s telepathic reading of each other’s game worked to good effect again.

Shannon Gaels scored their first Garry Cup win of 2013 in Labasheeda last Saturday evening. The home team made a good start, with early points from Nigel Hehir and Shane Tubridy, who kicked a free. By the 20th minute, further pointed frees from Tubridy and a point from David Neylon extended the Gaels’ lead to 0-5 to 0-1.

However, Cratloe centre-forward Fergal Carroll then struck for 1-1 from play, late in the half. A point from Barry Gleeson helped Cratloe into a 1-3 to 0-5 lead at half-time.

Just two minutes into the second half, a high delivery from Noel Kennedy was dropped into the net by Cratloe goalkeeper, Pearse Deloughrey.

That score steadied the Gaels, who added further scores from Michael O’Donoghue, Mark Bohannon, Shane Tubridy and Brian O’Shea. Cratloe free-taker Pádraig Chaplin responded with a brace of frees but the Gaels held on to pick up both points.
