Clondegad earn bragging rights

Clondegad 3-10   Lissycasey 1-13

ACCOUNTING for 2-9 of their final tally, Gary Brennan and Paudge McMahon played leading roles in Clondegad’s victory over Lissycasey in their entertaining contest at Lissycasey on Saturday evening.

Level at 0-3 each at the end of the opening quarter, the winners had their first goal in the 17th minute when McMahon applied the finish after Brennan had provided the pass.

Lissycasey closed the gap to a point but then McMahon struck again for goal number two. Lissycasey finished the half strongly and Oisín Talty rattled the net at the end of a great move to leave the half-time score at 2-5 to 1-6 in Clondegad’s favour.

The winners scored 1-3 without reply in the opening five minutes of the second half and this, effectively, decided the game. Lissycasey, to their credit, battled back and were unlucky to see another Talty piledriver rebound off the upright.

They were camped in the Clondegad goalmouth in the closing minutes but they just could not get through for the goal they needed to earn a share of the spoils.
In addition to Brennan and McMahon, the winners had good performances from Conor Gavin, James Murphy and Shane Brennan, while Lissycasey’s best on the day were Alan and Dermot Nagle, Oisín Talty and Gerry Moran.

St Senan’s 1-12   O’Curry’s 0-9

ST Senan’s, Kilkee collected their first points of this season’s league when they accounted for neighbours O’Curry’s at Doonaha on Saturday evening.

The win keeps their slender hopes of survival in Division 2 alive. A win didn’t appear likely in Saturday’s outing when they trailed by a point at half time, 0-5 to 0-6.

However, they upped their performance on the resumption and with inter-county men, Michael O’Shea and David Russell, dominating at midfield they took control.

A goal from Chris Williamson saw them take the lead and they dominated for the remainder of the game on a day when the O’Curry’s attack rarely threatened.

Cooraclare 0-13   Cratloe 1-10

A SUPERB point from Rory Donnelly in the final minute earned Cooraclare a share of the spoils at Cooraclare on Saturday.

Moments earlier, the inter-county forward looked to be through for a goal but his rasping shot rebounded off the crossbar.

This was a well contested tie but the visitors looked to be on the way to victory when they edged ahead with time running out. The result means Cratloe are clear of the relegation area but Cooraclare are still in danger of dropping and much will depend on the result of their final group game against Clondegad.

LISCANNOR maintained their place at the top of the table when they accounted for St Breckan’s in a North Clare derby on Saturday.

Alan Flaherty scored the game’s only goal midway through the first half and this proved to be a decisive score.

St Breckan’s fought back to level but failed in their bid to get in front.

Brian Considine was in excellent form for the winners at midfield and he kicked some great points.
