Clondegad – a fantastic place for Clare captains

CLONDEGAD GAA Club has achieved a noteworthy distinction this year with players from the club captaining all three of the county’s main football teams.

Following Clare senior football captain Gordon Kelly’s relocation to Boston for the summer, Gary Brennan has been promoted from vice-captain to captain for Saturday week’s All-Ireland qualifier game against Down in Cusack Park.
Conor Gavin captained the Clare minor footballers, who beat Waterford and Limerick in the Munster Minor Championship but lost twice to Cork, while Paudge McMahon captained the Clare U-21 footballers, who lost to Limerick after extra time in the Gaelic Grounds last March.
The glut of captaincy material in the Ballyea-Ballynacally area doesn’t end there though as Clare minor hurling captain, Tony Kelly, who hurls with Ballyea, plays football for Clondegad.
