Clare U-15s selection get better of Premier County

Clare 4-11   Tipperary 1-12

After a keenly contested match a Clare football selection prevailed by eight points over Tipperary. There were many good performances and a strong team effort by Clare in Banhsa.
Clare started slowly and were behind by four points after eight minutes but they levelled when Brian Monahan hit 1-1 from a free and a penalty.
This set Clare up and points followed with another goal coming in the 25th minute from Keith Sexton. Tipperary replied with a goal before the break, where Clare led 2-6 to 1-6.
With eight changes in personnel at half-time, Clare had points from Cian O’Dea and Liam Madigan to stay in front. Two well-taken goals from corner-forward Brian Guilfoyle sealed the result. Defensively, Clare were very solid and contested well at midfield with a Tipperary outfit that worked hard all evening.
This result comes on the back of other good performances, with wins against Limerick and Kerry North over the past month. The mentors are very pleased with the effort of their 41 players that have competed against provincial opponents in the last month.

Clare U-16s beaten by Tipperary

Tipperary U-16s 4-11   Clare U-16s 2-7

A Clare U-16 football selection travelled down to the home of Nicky English in Lattin for a challenge against the 2011 Munster U-15 champions. Clare, who were minus eight players through injury and the club hurling championship, were very competitive for the first 20 minutes, after which Tipperary led 1-4 to 0-5. The outstanding Tipp midfield duo had a dominant spell just before half-time and the addition of 1-3 gave the home a side a 2-7 to 0-5 interval lead.
Clare introduced five players to give the management the opportunity to try out more members of the panel but it was Tipperary who took control of the game and in particular their outstanding full-forward caused Clare all kinds of trouble. In this dominant period, Tipp scored a further 1-2 to increase their lead to 3-9 to 0-6.
However, the switch of half-time substitute Conor McNellis to full-back, where he nullified the previously unstoppable full-forward, while also surging forward to help Clare create scoring chances of their own. During their own period of domination Clare scored 2- 1 through the dangerous Paddy O’Malley and midfielder Anthony King, who scored a great individual goal.
Best for Clare were Conor McNeillis, Jack Brown and Darragh Haugh in defence while at midfield Anthony King put in a really good hour’s work. In attack, Paddy O’Malley had the beating of his marker all night and contributed 1-3 while Conor Deasy was also excellent.
