Clare traditional musician to be honoured

THE Clare Association in Dublin will be honouring another well-known Irish traditional musician at its annual dinner dance in Moran’s Red Cow Hotel, Dublin on Friday, February 5, when John Lynch of the famous Kilfenora Céilí Band will receive the Clare Person of the Year Award.

This year’s Hall of Fame Award goes to Tony Mulvey of The Clare Champion.
Other Clare traditional musicians have also been honoured in the past with the Clare Person of the Year Award. They included the late PJ Hayes of the Tulla Céilí Band, West Clare native Michael Tubridy, formerly of the Chieftains and Sharon Shannon from the Ruan parish.
Frank Custy, Ruan, who is also a familiar figure on the Irish traditional music scene, received the Clare Association’s Hall of Fame Award last year. In earlier years, the award went to the late Col Seán Clancy from East Clare, who received it on the occasion of his 100th birthday: the late Michael McNamara from Lisdoonvara and the late Joe Ryan from Inagh.
Tickets are selling well for the function on February 5, which starts at 8pm and Clare Association chairman, Liam O’Looney, is looking forward to a great night of music and another successful dinner dance. Young set dancers from Cree will also entertain guests at the function.
Tickets are available from Liam O’Looney (087 2377957), Jim Cleary (01 8682135) and Gerry O’Reilly (086 8498192).
