Clare minors seek All- Ireland glory

Clare Ladies U-18 Footballers make their last trip of the season when they travel to Birr for an All-Ireland U-18B final clash with Roscommon next Monday at 12 noon, refereed by Des McEnery (Westmeath).

The Clare girls have played with distinction in all their Munster matches accounting for Waterford and then Limerick to claim the Munster title.
They despatched Leinster champions, Kildare, two weeks ago, leading from the 20th minute and eventually pulling away in the fourth quarter to win by a nine-point margin.
This year’s panel has no less than nine of Kieran Harvey’s U-14 winning team from 2009 including Aoife O’Gorman, Orla Devitt, Marie Foran, Laura Egan, Eimear Hillery, Grainne and Shauna Harvey, Orlaith Lynch and Nikki Kaiser and they are anchored by Rebecca Culligan, Roisin Rouine, Roisin Howley, Ellie O’Gorman and Kayleigh McCormack. Goalkeeper Aoife O’Neill who was player of the match in this year’s U-16 Munster final leads a group of U-16s that include Marie Foran, Orla Devitt and Grainne Harvey who will also appear in their own U-16 All-Ireland semi-final next month against Meath. Captain Roisin Looney is a second year senior player while Edel McMahon and Shauna Harvey are senior rookies this year with several games clocked up since January, playing an active part in reaching the NFL Division 2 League semi-final. Alana O’Brien and Aisling Torpey are also recent additions to the senior panel.
Roscommon scored big wins over Sligo and Leitrim on the way to the Connaght B Final when they defeated Sligo again. The Clare ladies will want to bring their best game next Monday if they are to put an end to the 22 year wait since they last won the Minor title.
