Clare Crusaders to benefit from night at the dogs

A NIGHT at the dogs at the Limerick Greyhound Stadium in aid of Clare Crusaders has been organised by Ennis woman, Geraldine Sharkey.
The event, taking place on Friday, May 13, promises a night of family fun with Geraldine encouraging people to come out and support the local charity.
Geraldine herself will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in September along with 15 other Clare Crusaders fundraisers in support of the Barefield-based clinic helping children with special needs.
According to Geraldine, “Some people might think that Friday the 13th is unlucky for some but I’m hoping it will be lucky for me and plenty of people will come along on the night and support Clare Crusaders. With the recession and a lot of people finding it difficult to spare money, it’s hard to ask people to give money to charity. So I decided that if I organised an event where people could get value for money, along with helping to raise money for this wonderful organisation, then they would get involved.”
Tickets for the night from Geraldine cost the same as normal entry, however when buying tickets from her, the funds raised will go to Clare Crusaders. Children are free and Geraldine has also organised a bus to Limerick to ferry people from Ennis.
“This really is good value for money and I’m hoping that lots of people will come along and show their support. It will be a fun, family night out. Children are free so we are encouraging families to come along and have a good night out and watch the dogs. If you don’t want to bet any money then you don’t have to, just come along and enjoy the atmosphere. Hopefully the weather will be with us and we’ll all have a great time, while also raising money for a wonderful charity,” she said.
She explained that a cousin of hers with Down syndrome has been helped enormously by Clare Crusaders and that the greyhound night and the charity climb are her way of “giving something back”.
“Since my cousin started going there he’s had a huge benefit from the clinic. Clare Crusaders help so many children and it’s wonderful that I can give something back to them for all the amazing work they have been doing,” she added.
Tickets for the night in Limerick Greyhound Stadium are available by contacting Geraldine on 065 6821615.
