Clare crowned Munster minor champions

Clare 2-9

Cork  2-7

CLARE captured their third Munster minor camogie title in five years on Monday evening when they defeated Cork at Mallow.
Goals from Susan Fahy and Nikki Kaiser in the final quarter turned this tie in Clare’s favour.
Team captain, Chloe Morey, was another of the Clare stars on the evening, scoring all of her team’s points. Her performance earned her the player-of-the-match award
This was the fifth successive minor final between the pair and it proved just as competitive as the previous meetings with never more than a puck of the ball separating the sides. Clare led by 0-5 to 0-3 approaching the interval but an Aoife Kelly goal gave the home side a 1-4 to 0-5 half-time lead.
A goal in the 45th minute from Áine O’Donovan put Cork three points ahead but far from dropping their heads, Clare rallied and hit back immediately when Chloe Morey won a puck-out and picked out Susan Fahy on the wing who goaled to level up the game.
Cork pushed ahead once more through a Katie Buckley point but by now, Clare were gathering momentum and they got their just rewards when Niki Kaiser won possession and shot to the net from 20 metres. Chloe Morey extended Clare’s lead to three in the 58th minute but despite glorious late opportunities for Cork’s Elaine Scally and Laura Burke, Clare prevailed to take the silverware.
Trainer John Carmody expressed his delight at the win, saying that it had been a tough, physical contest in which all Clare players had made a valuable contribution.
