Clare Community Games stars honoured

THE annual Clare Community Games All-Star awards were held last Friday in the West County Hotel. Seventy-two children from 21 areas across the county received awards on the night.
Four families had two members receive awards – Jean and Micheál Clancy, Doonbeg; Paul and David Hamilton, Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry;  Laura and Sharon Egan, Kilmihil and Fergal and Natasha Coughlan from Quin/Clooney. 
The function was attended by Minister Tony Killeen, Deputy Mayor of Clare Michael Kelly, Micheál Roche for sponsors Golden Vale Milk, Billy Saunderson representing the International Police Association, Councillor Mary Howard representing the Mayor of Ennis Tommy Brennan and Fr Willie Russell who held many offices in Clare Community Games before moving to Limerick. Both Minister Killeen and Deputy Mayor Michael Kelly acknowledged the work of those involved in Community Games, especially the volunteers at area and county level. 
The Hall of Fame Award was presented to Seán McNamara from Tulla, who has been in involved in Community Games for many years and co-ordinated  draughts competitions for the county and Munster for nearly 20 years. The award was presented by Clare Community Games president, John O’Sullivan.
The International Police Association Cup for the most involved area in the county was presented by Billy Saunderson to Pat Taylor on behalf of Quin/Clooney who received it for the second year in succession.  Quin/Clooney now go on to represent Clare in the Munster and national finals in Ballinasloe on Saturday, November 20.
The All-Ireland winning set-dancing group from Carrigaholt/Cross and the All-Ireland finalists, a variety group from Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry, provided entertainment. Music for dancing was proved by DJ Gerry Sexton.

Keep Clare Clean Project

THE next competition for Clare Community Games is the Keep Clare Clean Environmental Project with a closing date for entry of Friday, November 12. This project aims to encourage young people to create ways to communicate the need for a clean community and county. There are two categories poster and poem in each age group U-6 and U-14. There is also a special category.

County AGM

THE county committee annual general meeting will be on Tuesday, November 9 in the West County Hotel, Ennis at 8pm. The closing date for receiving nominations and motions was last Monday. All areas are requested to send three delegates to the annual meeting.
A number of positions are being vacated this year including those of secretary, chairman and development officer.
