Dublin 3-13   Clare 0-8

DESPITE a strong first-half showing, Clare suffered a comprehensive defeat from Dublin in Round 2 of the All-Ireland U-16 Championship at Clooney on Sunday.
Behind by just a point, 0-7 to 0-8, at half-time, there were hopes the home side would get ahead in the second half but the visitors dominated this period.
Dublin had two points scored within four minutes with Clare replying with points form Kate O’Gorman and Orla Devitt. Dublin had the next score but Clare’s Kate O’Gorman pushed the home side ahead with a pointed free and an excellent point from play.
The next eight minutes belonged to the visitors with points from Orla Beagan, Aoife Molloy and two from Tara O’Flaherty. Clare fought hard and were rewarded with points from Devitt and an impressive over-the-shoulder shot from Lisa O’Donoghue, which left the minimum between the sides at the break.
Both teams were slow to settle at the restart, with the driving rain a major hindrance. Dublin, however, took things in hand and had 2-2 on the board within seven minutes.
Clare put up a huge battle but were denied on five occasions with excellent saves from Dublin goalie, Faye McCarthy. A pointed 45’ from Laura Rynne provided some consolation but Dublin pushed on, notching up 1-4 in the last five minutes, 1-1 from the stick of  substitute, Ailish O’Neill. The last score of the match was a well taken point from Clare’s Orla Devitt.
A disappointed Clare side can now close the door on this year’s U-16 championship.
