PENCIL Saturday night, July 9 into your diaries; the date Christy Moore plays The Pavilion Theatre, Lisdoonvarna.
The founding member of both Planxty and Moving Hearts appears in concert at the North Clare venue with his regular musical partner, guitarist Declan Sinnott. It will be Moore’s last show before a well-earned summer break.
Recently, the multi-selling artist appeared at the Finsbury Park Feis in London. At the two-day festival, Christy shared a stage with a host of luminaries like Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, Horslips, The Saw Doctors, Clannad and The Cranberries. This Saturday, Moore and Sinnott will headline the Live at the Marquee concert series in Cork.
Over the years, Christy Moore has had a particular affection for the Banner County and especially for the Spa town and this upcoming gig promises to be a very special occasion. Performing a number of times at the famed Lisdoonvarna Folk Festival in the late 1970s and early ’80s, Christy was inspired to write a special song about the event, which is still a firm favourite in his live repertoire. Of late, Moore and Sinnott have been in the studio laying down tracks for a new album, a follow-up to Listen, a superb CD that topped the Irish charts for five weeks when it was released in 2009. It achieved platinum status for sales in December of that year.
Christy Moore last appeared at the recently renovated Pavilion Theatre in April 2010. Tickets are now on sale for the upcoming show and can be obtained from The Royal Spa Hotel, at 065 70704288 or Ticketmaster.ie.
