Internationally renowned comedian Brendan Grace will participate in the Charity Ride and Drive in aid of the Mid-Western Cancer Foundation at University College Hospital, Limerick on Saturday, August 31.
Clare and Limerick County Councils have united to back this fundraiser, which is also being supported by the Irish Red Cross and local vets Padraig McNamara and Louis Hassett, who will provide their expertise.
On the day, a convoy of horses, ponies and their riders, led by a horse-drawn carriage, will travel along two different routes from Ennis Showgrounds to Limerick and from Clonshire Equestrian Centre, Adare to Limerick. Both routes will converge at the Greyhound Stadium in the city. Each participant, wearing a specially commissioned souvenir t-shirt, can do as much or as little of the route as they wish. Brendan Grace will join in along the way.
There will be designated stops on both routes where participants can join in or change mounts. The proprietors at each stop have all sponsored the provision of refreshments for everyone.
Limerick Greyhound Stadium invites all participants, collectors and supporters back later at 8pm for an evening of entertainment.
During this time, six winners will be picked to lead out the greyhounds running in the 8.30pm Mid-Western Cancer Foundation Charity Race.
All the proceeds from the event will go to the Mid-Western Cancer Foundation.
