’Champion honours the cream of ’10

The Clare Champion’s hurling and football teams of the 2010 senior championships, together with leading performers in a number of other sporting disciplines and in the area of community involvement, will be honoured at a gala presentation banquet at the Clare Inn Hotel on Friday, April 15.
The scheme, now in its sixth year, highlights The Clare Champion’s support for sport in the county. The company already sponsors the Clare Champion Cup and Cusack Cup (senior hurling and football leagues) and Cumann na mBunscoil an Chláir
Not surprisingly, county champions Crusheen and Doonbeg dominate this year’s selections.
For Crusheen, 2010 was a truly memorable year as they won the Clare senior hurling title for the first time in the club’s history. For team manager Michael Browne it was a memorable occasion. Three years earlier he was in charge of Tulla when they ended a long wait by beating Browne’s native Crusheen by the minimum margin.
Nine years without a county senior title seemed a long time for Doonbeg given that they dominated Clare football throughout the sixties, seventies and eighties. They bounced back impressively last year and deservingly won back the title, dethroning titleholders Kilmurry-Ibrickane.
This week we reveal our teams of the 2010 senior championships. Next week we will announce the others who will be honoured at the awards function on April 15, tickets for which are available at The Clare Champion.
