Champion Cup final deferred

The Clare Champion Cup senior hurling league final between Newmarket and Clonlara didn’t go ahead last Sunday after Clonlara acceded to a request from the newly-crowned county senior hurling champions to defer the fixture until after Newmarket’s involvement in the provincial club championship concluded.

The final was scheduled to take place in Sixmilebridge on Sunday but, on Friday night, the clubs agreed to put the game back.

In the event of Newmarket bowing out of the provincial championship on Sunday – they play De La Salle from Waterford at Sixmilebridge – the Clare league final will be on Sunday week.

Victory for Newmarket over De La Salle will see them through to the provincial final on November 25. This will mean the Clare league final will not take place before the weekend of December 1/2.
