Census warning

GARDAI are warning the public about who and what to expect in the run up to Census 2011 in the interest of crime prevention.

Crime prevention officer Sergeant Joe Downey said the census will take place on Sunday, April 10 and that delivery of census forms will begin on Friday, March 11.
“The forms will be distributed by enumerators calling to each household in his or her area of responsibility. Making personal contact with members of each household will be part of their brief and they may not simply drop in the form through the letter box,” he said.
This work will be carried out between 5pm and 10pm Monday to Friday and during the daytime and evenings on Saturdays and Sundays and that work will not extend past 10pm. Enumerators will wear CSO high visibility vests and will have their official enumerator identification card around their neck.
“They have been instructed not to go inside the dwellings. They may assist the elderly, the visually impaired or people with reading difficulties to complete their form. Anyone with any doubt about any person should contact their local garda station,” Sergeant Downey advised.
The collection of forms will begin on April 11 and will continue to May 13 and the same identifying features will apply to enumerators between those dates.
