The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of fewer than five additional cases of Covid-19 in Clare and five additional deaths related to Covid-19 nationally. Four of these deaths occurred in April, and one in February. There has been a total of 4,732 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland. As of midnight, Tuesday, April 6, the HPSC has been notified of 423 confirmed cases of Covid-19. There is now a total of 239,325* confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland. Clare’s opponents in the 2021 National Ladies Football league have been confirmed along with a proposed date for the first competitive fixture. Evan Talty’s tenure as Clare boss will begin on Sunday May 23 with a campaign in Division 2A of the league. Similar to their male counterparts, teams grouped in a regionalised format in order to reduce travel as part of Covid-19 concerns. Clare will face familiar opposition, including the Meath side who ended their All Ireland Intermediate run at the semi final stage last year before going on to claim the title. They will also face neighbours Kerry along with fellow intermediate side Wexford. The four Ulster counties of Tyrone, Monaghan, Armagh and Cavan making up the four team Division 2B. The 2021 Eurocycles Eurobaby Junior Tour has fallen victim to Covid-19 for the second year running. The popular cycling event, which has been one of the highlights in the Clare sporting calendar over the last few years, was scheduled to take place from July 13 to July 18 this year with stages across the whole county. CLARE Haven is in the running for a much-needed boost, after being nominated by staff of Permanent TSB in Clare for a share of its community fund. The fund operates in each of Permanent TSB’s regions across Ireland and aims to provide round €300,000 to six local charities – chosen by members of the public, in a vote that closes on Wednesday, April 7. Dr Siobhán O’Connor, Manager of Services with Clare Haven urged the public to get behind the scheme by casting their votes.
