THE second annual Moy National School 5km and 10km Fun Run in aid of the school development fund attracted over 110 competitors on New Year’s Day.
Julius Cesar F Castro, Willie Devitt and Thomas Garrahy, all Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, went through the 1km mark in 3.10. Eoin Looney, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, along with Patrick O’Rourke, led the next chasing group with Sharon Rynne, James Sexton and Tom Mackey working hard as they made their way up Cloneyogan Hill.
Julius Cesar F Castro made a decisive break at 4km before facing into Faha Hill and went through the 5km mark in 18.22. He crossed the finish line in 35.19 with Willie Devitt second in 36.36 and Thomas Garrahy third in 39.16.
Sharon Rynne, fresh from her victory in Shannon the previous day, started the 2012 season on a winning note when finishing fourth overall in a time of 42.30. She was followed by Mags Malone and Maura Falsey, both Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare. Eoin Looney, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, was the leading junior in fifth position overall in 42.41.
In the 5km run, Sean Rouine, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, came home first ahead of Cian Shannon and Oisin Looney with Áine Keane, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare the leading lady in the 5km ahead of Caoimhe Carmody, Marian and Elaine Shannon, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare.

Ladies 5km: 1. Áine Keane (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare); 2. Caoimhe Carmody (Marian); 3. Elaine Shannon (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare); 4. Áine Rouine (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare).
