Castro and Mackey win in Miltown Malbay

The second annual Miltown Malbay National school fundraising 5k fun run and walk was held last week and was very well supported, with 100 competitors going to the start.

Julio Cesar F Castro, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, went through the 1k mark in 3.03. Tom Mackey, Eoin Looney, Pádraig Malone, all Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, were in the next chasing group. The leader went through the 3k mark in 9.40.

 

Over the second half of this race he went further away to win in a very comfortable fashion in a time of 16.16, with Tom Mackey coming through to take second in 19.06 followed by Pádraig Malone (19.15) with Eoin Looney, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare, the leading junior athlete in 20.12 with Cillian O’Malley second and and Paraic Murray third.

The ladies race was an all Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare affair dominated by Noreen Mackey with the Hogan sisters, Caoimhie and Sinead, and Elaine Shannon all running well.

Noreen Mackey was always in control up front and won in a time of 20.54, with Caoimhie Hogan taking second and she was the leading junior girl in 21.22.
