Ennis teenager Dylan Casey has signed a ‘scholar contract’ with Leicester City and has taken up residence with the English Championship club this week.
“We are all hugely proud of him and we wish him well in his time in the UK,” said Avenue United chairman, Gearóid Mannion.
Dylan is the first player that has come through the Avenue academy to be signed by a cross-channel club. Throughout the past year, he has been travelling over to Leicester every month for trials.
Having impressed when he captained the Irish U-15 team, he delivered a number of good performances for Irish teams at U-15 and U-16 levels, which caught the eye of Leicester scouts.
“He has the basics and must build on that now. He has to serve his time and learn his trade. Leicester City coaches have been very enthusiastic about his positive attitude,” said the Avenue chairman.
Dylan has helped Avenue to much success at schoolboy level over the past six years. He is also a talented GAA player and played hurling and football with Éire Óg.
