Camogie executive to remain in place

All of the outgoing officers will be re-appointed, without opposition, when the annual convention of Clare camogie takes place on Monday night next at the Auburn Lodge hotel (7.30pm).
Orla Considine (chairperson) Bríd Canny (vice chairperson) Marie Louise Kaiser (secretary) Mary Hogan (assistant secretary), Michael Maher (treasurer), Siobhan Lafferty (assistant treasurer), Bríd McNamara (PRO), Marie McDonnell (registrar), Bridie O’Looney and Mary Hogan (delegates to Munster and to congress) are the only nominees for these posts.
In her first report to convention as secretary, Marie Louise Kaiser pays tribute to Inagh on winning the All-Ireland junior title.
“Two minor finals had to be played after the deadline of the November board meeting but, in general, the fixtures were played according to plan. Some were re-scheduled by agreement with the respective clubs and some needed a bit of help from the board. The age group which encountered the most difficulties was the minor grade mainly due to the new age restrictions,” the Newmarket club official says in her report.
Dealing with inter-county teams, the secretary says, “the seniors showed great improvement in competing at this high level with wins over Tipperary and Dublin in the championship and more than holding their own in the rest of the games”
Dealing with the minor team which won the Munster title, the secretary says “these girls started their campaign with Francie Mahon as manager. He was full of confidence that this would be the year where the Clare minors would make the breakthrough and win the All-Ireland championship. Sadly, Francie fell ill early in the year and passed away in October. He will be sadly missed by all in Clare camogie”
Concluding, she says, “A great breakthrough came with the securing of the new field in Doora”. She went on to express the wish that this facility will help the board provide the training facilities the girls deserve.
Many of the motions listed for discussion deal with competition structures and the timing of the championships. Interestingly the board will ask that “any team giving a walkover in a group game cannot qualify for a semi-final or final in that competition”.
St Joseph’s will propose that a team which wins their respective championship must automatically play in a higher grade the following year. St Joseph’s want all camogie games to be played at 15 a side.
Corofin, All-Ireland junior finalists in 2010, will ask to be re-graded from senior to junior for 2012.
