Call for accommodation for Trad Festival

As the countdown to the fourth annual Tulla Trad Festival gets underway, a callout for accommodation has been sounded amid the expectation of large numbers to this year’s event.
Tulla Trad festival runs from Friday-Sunday, September 10-12, and Tulla Comhaltas have issued a call out to residents in the area who would be interested in providing bed and breakfast for visitors over the weekend.
A spokesperson for the group said, “this year we expect to have large numbers travelling to Tulla for the festival and we have a number of host families who have done this over the last few years but we are looking for a few more.” Anyone interested is asked to contact Brid Murphy on 086 1522169.
According to Tulla Comhaltas, places for the music workshops are already starting to fill up and those interested in booking their place are asked to do so as soon as possible. The workshops will be held with Ged Foley offering classes in the fiddle, Seamus Tansey on flute, Rory McMahon on the concertina, Nora Butler will offer traditional singing, Aidan Vaughan will teach steps for sets and Susanne Leahy will offer sean nós dancing classes. Places for the workshops can be booked by contacting Mary McNamara on 087 2378611.
The festival will kick off with Clare’s Got Talent finalists, Maids of Tulla at the official opening in the courthouse on Friday night. This performance will be followed by The Family that Plays together… where several talented family groups from the locality will play a tune, sing a song and dance in Minogues.
The Saturday evening concert in the Courthouse will showcase Seamus Tansey along with other special guests. The highlight of Sunday’s entertainment will be the music recital at Tulla Courthouse. Here, Catherine McEvoy, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh will perform with a number of other special guests. Pre-booking is also advised for this event.
Furthermore, set dancing fans will not be disappointed as the weekend starts with an opening céilí at Murrays with music by Larry McEvoy on Friday night. Saturday night sees the Tulla Céilí Band take to the stage at St Joseph’s Secondary School hall at 10pm. While the closing céilí on Sunday night will have a magic of its own with music by Jim Corry, Mark Donnellan and friends.
Robbie McMahon and Nora Butler will host a singing session at Teach Ól on Sunday, which has proven to be a very popular part of the festival for the past few years and all singers are encouraged to come along.
