Busy weekend as competitions rescheduled

GOLF courses across the county were closed throughout last week due to the severe frost and this resulted in the cancellation of a lot of competitions and society outings, a number of which have been rescheduled for this weekend, weather-permitting.

Ennis
ENNIS ladies recently held a very successful league and the overall winner with the best three cards was Bridget Hoey. Incoming lady captain, Phil Butler, won the prize for the best two cards, while the best card winner was Noreen Doohan. Other winners were Aideen Considine, (week 1), Suzanne Deane (week 2) Carmel Cummins (week 3) and Yvonne Keohane (week 4).

LAST weekend’s singles turkey vouchers over 15 holes saw Des McDonnell capture the spoils with 40 points. Des had two points to spare from James Bullman. The gross was won by Jason O’Donnell with three under par 33 points.
The annual kids’ Christmas party takes place this Sunday from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.
There will be a men’s 15-hole turkey four-ball competition this weekend. 

Spanish Point
SPANISH Point Parent club annual general meeting was held last Saturday. Officers elected for 2011 are: president, Paddy Cleary; secretary, Tom Mernagh; treasurer, Michael Hillery; chairman, Michael Hennessy; committee, Breda Murphy, Gary Carroll, Mary Saunders, John J Skerritt, Kathleen Twomey, Eoghan O’Loughlin, Aoife O’Malley, Fergal Hehir, Seamus Cleary, Seán Treacy, Gerry O’Loughlin, Denis Gallery, Noel McMahon, Nuala Kilroy.
The men’s hamper competition has been re-scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday and the timesheet is available in the clubhouse.
The children’s Christmas Party will take place this Sunday at 5pm in the clubhouse.

East Clare
THERE was a big turnout for the captains’ (Willian O’Brien and Siobhán Shanahan) drive in at East Clare on Sunday.
In the scramble, which was held in conjunction with the drive-in, the winners over the front nine were Ger Hogan, Val Donnellan, Dave Condren and Marie A Kelly from Ger Teefy, Kevin O’Brien, Phil Burke and Joe O’Brien with third spot filled by William O’Brien, Kevin Mannion, Siobhán Shanahan and Geraldine Burke.
The winners of the competition on the back nine were Jim Greene, John O’Brien, Bríd Hayes and Anna McGillicuddy from Michael O’Brien, Michael O’Hanlon, Mary Brennan and Catherine Minogue with third spot filled by Catherine Murphy, Mary Collins, Redmond Walsh and Kieran McNamara.
There will be a ladies’ scramble this Sunday at 11.30am, while the format for the men’s winter league is 14-hole singles.

Gort
WEATHER-permitting, the men’s hamper competition will take place at Gort this weekend while the weekly open singles will continue on Monday.
In the ladies’ Christmas cracker competition, Sara Broderick was the winner with 61 points from Ruth Naughton on 59, Patricia Skehill on 57, Helen McCormick on 56, Anne Kerins on 53, Siobhán Forde on 51, Christina Daly on 48, Brenda Morrissey on 48, Marion Ruane on 47, Regina Malone on 47, Bernie Diskin on 47 and Josie Cummins on 45.
Last week’s 13-hole mini hamper competition was won by Sara Broderick with 33 points from Helen McCormick on 30 and Ruth Naughton on 30.
