Busy week for Clare competitors


Clare Community Games had a very busy week with county competitions in swimming, quiz, pitch & putt, duathlon and mixed distance relays. The Munster finals were also held on Saturday in Tralee when eight teams qualified for the national finals as did three individuals in judo.

Mixed relays
The Clare Community Games cross country relays were held in Cooraclare GAA field, hosted by the local Community Games committee, last Friday.

 

Despite the bitterly cold evening, there was a fine turnout of athletes. Local girls Niamh Conlon won the U-12 400m with the 600m title going go Susan Nestor, Carrigaholt/Cross. the boys U-12 400m went to Shane Harrison, Quin/Clooney with the 600m going to Conor Blake, Doonbeg.

In the girls U-14 600m, there was a win for Clara Neylon, Inch/Connolly/Kilmaley, with the 800m going to Amy Barrett from Derg. Tony Odubuto, Ennis St John’s, won the boys U-14 600m and the 800m went to Patrick O’Rourke, Ennistymon/Liscannor.

The first three in each event make up the teams to participate in the national finals in May.

Duathlon
Quin was the venue for the duathlon competition when Shauna Melican, Kilkee, and Sean Cahill, Tulla, emerged as the winners.

Pitch and putt

The pitch and putt competitions for both girls and boys U-16 took place on Saturday at Clare Road. The coordinators were Jimmy Maher and Connie Corry. The medals were presented by Tommy Slattery, the course manager.

The gold medal winners in each age now go on to represent the county in the national finals in Athlone in May.

The swimming finals were held recently in Ennis and co-ordinated by Claire McGrath. The gold medal winners go forward to represent Clare in the national finals in Athlone at the end of May.

Quiz final

The U-14 quiz competition was held in the CBS in Ennis on Wednesday last. Twenty teams competed for the opportunity to represent their area and county at the national level.
The co-ordinator was Tony Bourke with quiz master Martin McInerney. The gold medal winners go forward to represent Clare in the national finals in Athlone.
