BUNRATTY’S Gari Deegan qualified for the next phase of The Voice of Ireland on last Sunday night’s episode.
Gari was up against Dervla McGuinness from Newry, with the two doing a duet on The Noisettes’ Don’t Upset The Rhythm. After the performance, team mentor Bressie opted to keep Gari, which means he will be going onto the first live show on March 4.
“It was a very weird situation and very nerve wracking,” said Gari of Sunday night’s battle.
“You’re trying to do the best you can with someone else but at the same time you’re trying to better them and it’s quite nerve wracking.”
Gari said he was enjoying working with Bressie, who found fame as the front man of the Blizzards and had a hit single of his own ‘Can’t stay young forever’ last year.
“Bressie’s great. He’s very genuine and he is very interested in what I’m doing,” he said.
Gari has started travelling to schools in the Mid-West in an attempt to drum up some support in advance of his appearance on the first live show.
