Bridge get vital goals in extra time

Bridge United 2 Tulla United 1

Bridge United were crowned U-12 champions at the county grounds on Saturday when they accounted for Tulla United in a game that required extra time to separate the sides. All of the goals were scored in extra time.
Tulla played with the aid of the breeze in the first half and they created the better chances.
Tulla’s Conor Murphy, later named as the player of the match, came close but he was denied by the outstanding Bridge United goalie, Jamin Hoffman, who made one particularly superb save.
Hoffman came to his side’s rescue again early in the second half.
As the end of the third quarter approached, Tulla’s Cian Keogh was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and this resulted in his sending off and the awarding of a penalty to Bridge United. Paul Corry, whose cross had been handled by Keogh, stepped up to the spotkick but he failed to find the target.
Tulla had a great chance shortly after this but Sean Kearney failed to avail of the opportunity.
Bridge United’s Eoin Cooney came close to scoring after this but the game remained scoreless to the final whistle.
Early in the first period of extra time the deadlock was broken when Bridge United captain Christopher Carey found the net after a great run by Eanna Chaplin.
They doubled their lead when Jordan Downes scored early in the second period for the side managed by Pat Cooney and Bobby Deegan.
Tulla fought back and Conor Murphy got through for a goal but, try as they did, they were unable to find a leveller and Bridge United held on for victory.
After the game, Clare Schoolboys chairman Ronnie Pyne presented the trophy to the winning captain, Christopher Carey.
