Bridge Celtic move into the top spot

First Division

Bridge United A 1   Bridge Celtic 0

Bridge United A took a giant step towards promotion from the first division when they accounted for Bridge Celtic on Sunday.

The all-important goal came from John Keogh in injury time and, as a result the Bridge are now top of the league with two games in hand.

The result has put a dent in Celtic’s promotion hopes.

The teams were evenly balanced throughout and the result could have gone either way on a day when Jason White excelled for the winners.

Bridge Celtic felt they had a goal just before half-time through Alan Conway but referee Frankie Coote ruled that the ball had not crossed the line.

Despite the loss, Celtic are still in the race for promotion. Earlier last week they had a 3-0 win over Newmarket Celtic B with goals from Shane Byrnes, Paul McEvoy and Micheal Ryan.

Bridge United A: John Mulready; Stephen Stewart, Trevor White; Darren Murphy, Christy Griffin; Adrian White, Darragh Fitzgeald, Eric Carr, Jonathon Downes; Trevor Maxwell, Michael McNamara.
Subs: Johnnie Keogh for Carr.
Bridge Celtic: Paul O’Con-nell; Cian Moloney, Wesley Fleming, Luke Turner, Ollie Phillips; Micheal Ryan, Seamus Gleeson, Shane Byrnes, Conor Hynes; Paul McEvoy, Alan Conway.

Newmarket Celtic B kept their hopes of promotion alive with a 2-1 win over Bunratty-Cratloe.
