Borus made the early running with Tommy Moroney and Eric Flynn launching attacks from the half-back line with Cormac O’Regan cleaning up anything that slipped passed them. Henry Hayes was dominant in midfield while Ronan Keane, Francis O’Grady and John Lawlor combined to constantly threaten in attack. It was a testament to the hard work of Faughs’ defenders and especially Kevin Brennan, with a string of fine saves, in goal that kept the score at 0-7 points to 0-2 at the break.
The trend continued in the second half as Borus stretched the lead to eight points
Barry O’Connell, Seán Conheady and Anthony O’Halloran did their best to reverse the tide but their forwards did little to help. Borus seemed to hunger for a goal at this stage and it was only through more fine saves from Brennan that they were denied.
Jack Walsh managed to score a goal for the Faughs when the ball fell into his path after a Jamie Deniffe save. Borus didn’t panic and cruised to a victory which was far more comfortable than a five point margin suggests the final score was 0-10 to 1-2.

Shield final
SATURDAY’S shield final was between The Rovers, managed by Des Neylon and St John’s managed by Pascal Mahon. It was St John’s, that settled best and after a few missed chances, Niall Daly stepped up to the mark with a point. The Rovers hit back with a point from Adrian Flaherty and a goal from Padraic Crehan after a great save from Jonathan Corbett.
St John’s were swift and clinical in their reply with a cracking goal from Jason Carew who shot past a helpless Donnacha Keane. The Rovers responded with three well-worked points by Tara Sheehan, Eoin Hanrahan and Pádraig Roughan. St John’s finished the half well with a great strike from the busy Kevin Hurley yielding a point and a great solo effort from Ross Darmody who calmly placed his shot into the net after a 40 yard dash. This left the score 1-4 to 2-2 in favour of St John’s at half-time.
The Rovers started the second half well with a great long-range score from man of the match Adrian Flaherty. With the sides all square, Tadhg Hanrahan fielded the ball from the puck-out and launched it back over the bar. The Rovers started to dominate as the half progressed with Luke O’Loughlin, Paul Dilleen and Noel Whelan impressing. The turning point in the game came midway through the second half when Donnacha Keane saved a blistering shot from close range from Niall Daly.
The ball fell to Paul Dilleen who cleared to Patrick Mescall. Mescall sent a diagonal ball to Michael Donnellan who sent a hand pass to the oncoming Adrian Flaherty who duly blasted the ball into the top corner of the net. From there on, it was all Rovers who tagged on points from Padraic Crehan, Eoin Hanrahan, Pádraig Roughan and a brace from Adrian Flaherty. It ended Rovers 2-11, St John’s 2-6.
Christopher White presented the shield to a jubilant Rovers captain, Paul Crehan.
