‘Blown away’ by diecast display

People were “blown away” by the quality of miniature models on display at the second Clare Diecast and Model Show in the West County Hotel, Ennis on Sunday last.

In fact, exhibitors came from as far away as Tyrone while trade stalls were provided from Armagh. Most counties were represented at the event and they included Dublin, Galway, Carlow, Cork, Clare, Limerick and Kerry.
One of the main highlights was the production of a very real life like version of the old Gort Railway Station produced by a semi-retired Kinvara-based master chef.
Railway enthusiasts were intrigued by intricate details in the old Gort railway crafted by Walter Oberle, thanks to his painstaking patience.
Between 800 and 900 people viewed different types of miniature trucks, heavy haulage, plant equipment, cranes, farm equipment, rally cars, sheds, soldiers, dolls houses and aeroplanes, depicting all facets of life and recreation.
While most people don’t mix their work with recreation, Brian Kavanagh has turned his job into an intriguing hobby.
Inspired by other collectors for what is believed to be one of fastest growing hobbies in Ireland, Brian the collector became Brian the show organiser.
He was thrilled with the overall attendance, the quality of models displayed by exhibitors and expressed his gratitude for the support of his sponsors. He is already looking forward to preparing for next year’s event.
“A lot of people who went to the event didn’t know what to expect. They were blown away with all the displays and couldn’t get over what was produced on the day.
“It was such a success we will have to go ahead with another event next year.”
All the proceeds from the door and a raffle will donated to the Clare Crusaders’ Clinic in Barefield, which provides therapy for over 190 special needs children with Austistic Spectrum Disorder, Cerebal Palsy, Downe Syndrome and other conditions.
