Big win for Clare athletes at Nenagh


The Munster Masters Indoor Championships plus the juvenile multi-events for U-12 to U-18 were held at the Nenagh Indoor Arena. Clare athletes gave outstanding performances when taking nine gold medals, nine silver medals and three bronze medals.
Richard McArthur, in the O-45 category, came away with five gold medals. After winning the 60m, he followed with gold in the long jump and high jump, and later on that afternoon he won gold in the 200m and added a gold in the 56lbs without follow.
David Courtney, Ennis Track, competing in the O-45 section came away with the gold medal in the shot putt and he added silver in the long jump and 56lbs for distance and a bronze medal in the high jump.
In the masters O-40 Tommy Greene, St John’s, came away with gold in the shot putt (10.49m) and he also captured the 56lbs for distance. He won a silver medal in the long jump and a bronze medal in the high jump.
Pat Hogan, Ennis Track, ran a fine race in the 800m to take the silver medal.
In the masters men O-35 Martin Glynn, Ennis Track, came away with a great victory in the 1500m in 4mins.36.32secs.
Brian Spring, Ennis Track, won a bronze medal in the 60m and a silver medal in the 200m.
In the masters men O-50 Martin Fitzpatrick, St Mary’s, had to be at his very best to capture the silver medal in the shot putt with a throw of 10.02m. His best event is the 56lbs for distance and over six rounds he came away with a silver medal with a throw of 7.19m.
In the Munster juvenile multi-events U-14 Rachel Clancy St John’s, competing in five events, hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot putt, and 800m, captured the silver medal with a total of 2443 points.
The gold medal went to another Clare athlete, Deirbhile Ryan from Clonlara who competes out of Nenagh AC who finished with a total of 2541 points. In the boys U-14 Paraic McNamara Marian, competing in the same five events came away with a silver medal with a total of 2977 points.

Stephen’s Day turkey trots planned for Ennis and Ballyea

Ennis Track Club will hold their annual St Stephens Day turkey trot at Ballyea Community Centre. The walkers will start at 12.30pm and the runners will start at 1pm. 
This year’s event is in aid of Cahercalla Community Hospice, Ennis. After the race there will be light refreshments, and at 2pm there will be a raffle with numerous prizes, and all proceeds will go to Cahercalla Hospice as well. 
The 14th annual Ennis Urban District Council and Marian AC St Stephen’s Day Turkey Trot will take also take place from Waterpark House Drumbiggle on the December 26 at 12 noon.
Prizes will be awarded to the first three men and ladies also for the boys and girls U-10 and U-14 and all donations received on the day go to charity.

26 Fields of Athenry 10k Road Race starting at 11am.
26 Farranfore Maine Valley 4 mile road race at Farranfore Co Kerry starting at 12noon.
27 Lahinch to Cliffs of Moher 10km run and walk starting in Lahinch Car Park, starting at 10am in aid of Cahercalla Community Hospital.
27 The Burren Charity Challenge organised by the Burren Cycling Club and Kilnaboy Athletic Club in Balluvaughan starting at 1pm, walk or run 10km or cycle 40km.

January 2011
1 Maigh National School 5km fun run and walk starting at Moy Church Car park at 11am.
9 Munster Senior and Junior Indoor Championships at Nenagh starting at 10.30am.

 

Frostbite run

Clare Sports Partnership and Clare Athletics Association will hold the rescheduled second race in this Frost Bite 5km road race series on Friday, December 31, at Mullagh.
Entries will be taken at Mullagh Community Hall between 9am and 10am and the 5km run, walk or jog will start on the Finnormore Road.
This is open to all over 16 and participants do not have to be a member of any club.
The third race will be in Scariff on Saturday January 22 starting at 10.30am and the fourth and final race in the series will take place on February 12 at Lees Road starting at 10.30am.
