BANNER Ladies recaptured the U-14 A title following an excellent display against West Clare Gaels last weekend. However, West Clare Gaels took the lead early in the game when Gráinne Harvey found the net.
When the Banner’s Emily Moloney located Eva O’Dea from the kick-out, a quick release to captain Karen Roche ended up in the Gaels net and a minute later she was set up by midfielder Doireann Hennessy for a text book point.
Come the interval the winners led 4-2 to 2-4 with Aisling Cahill, Karen Roche and Gráinne Nolan all netting. Caoimhe Harvey scored the Gaels second first half goal.
The Banner half back line of Niamh Donnellan, Aoife Keane and Laura Chesser, (who came on for Shauna O’Connor) had harried their opponents, forcing errors and collecting ball. Now the key supporting players of the first half took on the attacking roles and points from Doireann Hennessy, centre forward Aoibheann Malone (two), corner forward Eilish Counihan, midfielder Eva Keane and a second goal from the dynamic Grainne Nolan remained unanswered as the Banner laid siege to the West Clare Gaels rear guard.
Fidelma Marrinan was the only West Clare Gaels player to score in the second half. Karen Roche finished the days work for the winners with three late points.
