Banner five still alive in Munster Junior Football PPS Championships

Clare’s interest in the Munster Junior (Under 17) Post-Primary Schools Football Championships have been reduced to five after a busy week of derbies in all five grades.
St Joseph’s Spanish Point (C), St John Bosco Community College, Kildysart (D) and Under 17E trio St Michael’s Community College Kilmihil and St Patrick’s Comprehensive School, Shannon and Ennis Community College who are due to face each other this morning (Thursday) in Wolfe Tones at 10.45am are the only schools left in the first provincial championship of the 2024/25 season.
The Frewen Cup is destined to return to Kerry for another year after St Flannan’s College bowed out at the quarter-final stage to St Michael’s Listowel by 1-13 to 1-09 in The Bog Garden in Rathkeale on Wednesday afternoon.
Trailing by 1-4 to 0-4 by the break, the Ennis College grabbed a lifeline on the restart when Kieran Doyle converted a penalty. With Dara Kennedy and TJ Moore dominating the engine room, Darragh Kelly’s outfit did their utmost to reel their Kerry opponents in but were agonisingly kept at arm’s length to ensure a premature exit.

St. Flannan’s College: Cian McAllister (Clondegad); Marc Kennedy (Clondegad), John Barry (Ennistymon), Gavin Fitzgerald (Ennistymon); Luke Vaughan (Eire Og), Kieran Doyle (Eire Og), Cian Turner (Clondegad); Dara Kennedy (Clondegad), TJ Moore (St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield); Shane Dilleen (St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield), Eoin O’Connor (Clondegad), Donnacha Mahon (Clooney-Quin); Colm Daly (St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield), Leon Talty (St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield), Graham Ball ( St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield)
Subs: Sean Kelly (Clarecastle) for Talty, Jack Ellingstad (Clarecastle) for Dilleen

Scorers: Dara Kennedy (3f), Eoin O’Connor (0-3 each); Kieran Doyle (1-0, Pen); Graham Ball, TJ Moore, Donnacha Mahon (0-1 each)

Next week sees the start of the Munster Junior Hurling (Under 17) equivalents, with St Flannan’s College bidding to reach the last eight when taking on St Colman’s, Fermoy on Tuesday afternoon (1.30pm) while 24 hours later, St Joseph’s Tulla face Our Lady’s Templemore.
In the provincial Under 17C Championship, St Caimin’s Shannon make their bow against neighbours St Munchin’s College on Thursday while Wednesday throws up another Clare v Limerick knock-out showdown as St Anne’s Killaloe encounter Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh at 12.30pm.
There’s an even more local affair when St Joseph’s Spanish Point lock horns with St Patrick’s Comprehensive, Shannon in the Under 17E at 12.30pm while St John Bosco Kildysart meet Coláiste Mhuire Askeaton.
Days, venues and times will be updated on Monday.
