A MAN in his 30s was brought before a sitting of Ennis District Court this Thursday morning, charged with the murder of Deirdre McCarthy in North Clare last week.

Colm Deely with an address at School Road, Ballyvaughan, was charged at Ennis Garda Station on Wednesday night with the murder of the 43-year-old who was reported missing on Monday, March 28.
Mr Deely was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by gardaí investigating the death of the Ballyvaughan woman, whose body was found on Fanore strand by a man out walking his dog shortly before 8am last Thursday morning. Intensive land and sea searches had been carried out in the days following Ms McCarthy’s disappearance.
Ms McCarthy’s body was taken to the Mid-Western Hospital Limerick where a post mortem was carried out on Friday and it was determined that she had “died as a result of violence”. At the time of going to print, gardaí had still not released the results of the post mortem saying they could not do so yet “for operational reasons”.
Ms McCarthy was last seen alive when she was dropped to her residence at Turlough House about 1km from Ballyvaughan on the Lisdoonvarna Road at 11.30pm on Sunday night, March 27.
Deirdre McCarthy was laid to rest in Ballyvaughan on Tuesday following requiem mass in the local St John the Baptist church.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or movements at or in the vicinity of the house, or on the roads in and out of Ballyvaughan, Lisdoonvarna or Kilfenora, between 11.30pm on Sunday, March 27 and 7am on Monday, March 28, to contact them.
Gardaí can be contact at Ennistymon Garda Station 065 7072180, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
Mr Deely was remanded in custody to appear before Ennistymon District Court next Wednesday.
