Ballyea and Feakle in decider

Ballyea   2-14
Ruan  1-7

Ballyea reached their first Junior B League final in five years when they proved too strong for Ruan in this semi-final tie at Éire Óg on Sunday in warm conditions.

In what was a fairly even first-half, the winners started well scoring five-points in the first quarter but Ruan scored a goal to put them back in the game.

A goal by Keith Devitt in the 25th minute gave Ballyea a boost before the break, at which time the winners led by 1-8 to 1-4.

Ciarán Doohan scored the winners second goal in the third minute of the second half to put them in the driving seat with a 2-8 to 1-4 lead. From here on Ballyea were always in control with Alan Hehir again in good shooting form scoring 0-10, while Rory Longe, Tadhg Lynch, Aaron Nugent and Brandon O’Connell each scored a point. The winners’ back-line was solid throughout with good displays from Mikey Nagle, Luke Browne, Barry Coffey and Alan Carrig.

Feakle  2-12
Newmarket  2-4

Goals from Anthony Guilfoyle and Bill Purcell helped Feakle to a surprise but merited win over Newmarket in this semi-final at O’Callagan’s Mills on Sunday.

The winners were three points ahead at half-time when the score was 1-6 to 1-3. Impressive for the winners were Peter Collins, Bill Purcell, Michael O’Grady and Justin Nelson. Veteran Tommy Guilfoyle played in attack while Harry McMahon and Mike Guilfoyle also played a part in this tie.
