Back-to-back victories for Sixmilebridge minors

Sixmilebridge  2-22
Clonlara  2-11

A week after after their impressive victory over Kilmaley, Sixmilebridge minor hurlers produced another polished display in front of the home crowd to put themselves firmly in contention for a championship semi-final spot.

The ’Bridge started the brighter and raced into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead with the scores coming from Alex Morey, Eoin Flynn, Conor Deasy and Kevin Fenessesy, who’s move to full-forward troubled Clonlara, as he bagged two fine scores in the space of a few minutes.

With the pressure on, it was only a matter time before the ’Bridge raised a green flag and Shane McInerney duly obliged as he latched on to a long clearence.

However, Clonlara responded immediately and scored a major of their own after great interplay between the forwards.

The ’Bridge, who led by four points at half time, started the second half brightly and fired over the first four points with Brian Corry adding his name to the list of scorers. Clonlara responded with two points and after their keeper made another great save, Corry buried the rebound to give the home side a richly deserved lead. Clonlara fought back bravely and goaled again to leave nine between the sides. However they were unable to cope with the power of the ’Bridge forwards and further points from Morey, Deasy, Stevie Mulready and Shane McInerney gave the ’Bridge their second victory of the campaign. On the night the ’Bridge had great performances from Cathaoir Agnew, Alex Morey, Kevin Fennessy, Conor Deasy and Shane McInerney.
