Kildysart 1-10

A first away trip for Kilrush in the Garry Cup resulted in victory in Kildysart on Saturday evening. In an excellent game of football, Kilrush just about deserved the win, which was played in ideal conditions.
Kildysart enjoyed early dominance, with the O’Connor brothers holding sway in the middle of the field. After 10 minutes, they led 0-3 to 0-1. Kilrush worked their way back into the game and a goal from Jim Young midway through the half put Kilrush three points clear.
Kildysart replied immediately when a Damien Murtagh free appeared to go all the way to the net past Calum Bond, with Kildysart full-forward Keith Murphy hovering. Kilrush recovered to lead 1-7 to 1-5 at the break.
Both teams traded score for score in the second half and despite a late rally from the Kildysart men, they couldn’t get the goal they needed. The home team were without Ger Kelly, who was absent with flu.
John Hayes (when moved to centre-back) and Matthew Moloney were impressive in defence for the winners while Daniel Lynch worked hard in the middle of the field, where Keith and Neil O’Connor were formidable opponents. Jim Young and Padjoe McGrath did well for Kilrush in attack.
