One-wall
tournament
The inaugural Rumble in the Drumlins one-wall tournament took place in St Patrick’s, Cavan, last weekend. Three Clare competitors competed and all had good results.
In the boys’ U-16, Fergal Coughlan, (Clooney-Quin) defeated Brian McAnenly of Armagh 15-6, 15-14 in an enthralling final.
These players are sure to renew their rivalry at the upcoming world championships to be held at City West in Dublin from October 11 to 21.
In the boys’ U-14 grade, Jack Hayes (Clarecastle) had an unfortunate start to the competition and was narrowly beaten in his first game.
However, the young Magpie went on to contest the final of the plate section and came up against a formidable Kells opponent,  Peter Smyth. It was nip-and-tuck all the way but the Kells competitor triumphed on a scoreline of 18-15.
In the men’s masters Sean McNally defeated Fergal Coughlan in the final, 6-15, 15-12, 11-9. Fergal had previously had victories on Saturday over three northern opponents.
