While it’s not quite a revolution, it is very much a case of anything goes for 120 girls at Coláiste Muire, Ennis at the moment.
It is, of course, organised chaos as the girls, under the guidance of producer, Gerardine McGlynn and musical director, Michael Hennessy, are working flat out to bring the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes to the Ennis stage from December 1 to 4.
This is the Coláiste’s 25th successive show after the revival of the school’s proud musical tradition in the mid 1980s. The annual musical costs €25,000 to produce but every effort is made to fundraise for the event so that all aspects of the production will complement the amazing performances of the young people.
Rehearsals and preparation for Coláiste Muire’s 2010 musical are well advanced and audiences are sure to be wowed with the fabulous music and lyrics of America’s greatest composers.
The story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London.  Classic songs such as Anything Goes, You’re the Top, It’s De-Lovely and I Get a Kick Out of You will make for a memorable evening.
Coláiste Muire students have staged fantastic musicals year after year since 1985 and this year’s crop will, no doubt, continue to match the high standard.
They promise to transform the Danlann stage with fabulous costumes, exciting dance routines and show stopping performances.
“The girls really do give everything to the musical and we are always astonished by what they can deliver. There is enormous talent in the school and it is great to be able to give them a platform to perform,” commented Michael Hennessy.
Principal, Jean Pound said, “We’re very grateful for the support that we get from the board of management and from local businesses and organisations. We believe that this is a vital part of the girls’ education. Many past pupils speak of how much they got from participation in the show. It can literally transform them as they find the confidence to go on stage or take on responsibility of stage crew or make up.”
Anything Goes runs from Wednesday, December 1 to Saturday 4 in Danlann an Chlair, with curtain up at 8.15pm. Tickets are available from the school office at 065 6829497 or from Mary Kelly’s Newsagent, O’ Connell Street, Ennis or Jim O’Dowd’s Shop in the Turnpike, Ennis.
