Another win for ’Bridge minors

Sixmilebridge   1-13

Éire Óg  0-8

SIXMILEBRIDGE won their second round minor A game against Éire Óg in a tame affair at Sixmilebridge last Wednesday evening. The game had to finish under lights, due to a late start because of camogie in O’Garney Park.

The ’Bridge started better and were four points up inside the first 10 minutes with Eoin Flynn, Jamie Shanahan, Mark Hehir and Alex Morey all on the scoresheet.
Éire Óg were playing an extra man in defence and this thwarted many ’Bridge attacks. County minor Shane O’Donnell opened the Ennis side’s account in the 10th minute with a fine point from play.
The teams traded points up to half-time with Cian Darcy for Éire Óg scoring some excellent frees. The hosts led 0-8 to 0-4 at the break. The second half continued at the same pace with Conor Deasy, now at full-forward, scoring some excellent points. Shane O’Donnell and Darcy continued to keep the Townies in touch. Jamie Shanahan scored the home side’s goal in the 32nd minute when Paul Finnan was fouled on his way to goal. Sean Smyth had a fine game in goals for Éire Óg.

Doora-Barefield  3-20

Smith O’Brien’s  3-10

IN what was a great game of flowing hurling, Doora Barefield opened the scoring in the first 30 seconds and within five minutes had 1-3 on the board, while conceding just a point.
The winners were always the stronger, more physical side but Smith O’Brien’s had good forwards.
This was Fionn O’Carroll Quinlan’s last game with his team, as he is emigrating to Canada. Playing in defence, he was one of their leading lights.
Darragh O’Sullivan and Donal O’Halloran both impressed in the attack with David Clancy and David Conroy commanding midfield. Eoin Sexton and Aaron Landy also played well.
IN the opening round of the Minor C Championship played at Meelick on Monday, Wolfe Tones notched up a win.
The game was played in continuous drizzle, which made good hurling difficult but both teams served up an honest hour’s endeavour.
Wolfe Tones set the tone in the opening few minutes with a great solo run from midfielder William Flynn, who soloed thought the heart of the Meelick defence to plant the sliotar in the net.
Despite ample possession, the Wolfe Tones forwards found it difficult to find the range but a second goal before half-time by Dean Rudd left the Shannon side leading at the short whistle on a scoreline of 2-2 to 0-2.
With the Wolfe Tones backs dominating, the Meelick men were finding it difficult to make an impression and two further goals from full-forward Andrew Shanagher sealed the game for the Shannon side.
For Meelick, goalkeeper Roy Duffy, centre-back Bobby Sherlock and Kieron McCarthy tried their best to keep Meelick in contention. For Wolfe Tones, their defence was on top form, with Cathal McCoy, Stephen Touhy and Sean Reidy especially prominent.
Their midfield partnership of Jack Kelly and William Flynn provided ample opportunities for the forwards, where Andrew Shanagher was most prominent.
Wolfe Tones: Aaron Diviney; Cathal McCoy, Stephen Touhy; Greg Delahunty, Sean Reidy, Conor Pettigrew; Jack Kelly, William Flynn; Gavin McPhillips, Andrew Shanagher, Mikie Hasty; Dara Leahy, Dean Rudd.
